Accessibility Spotlight

Seeing Access Through Lived Experience

The Accessibility Spotlight is a community-led initiative that looks at how accessible venues, activities and services really feel for people living with arthritis and related long-term conditions — not on paper, but in practice.

Important: What This Is Not

The Accessibility Spotlight is not a formal accreditation scheme, certification programme, clinical assessment or guarantee of accessibility. It does not replace statutory obligations or professional access audits. It offers lived experience observations and practical insights to help organisations understand and improve the everyday experience of people with long-term conditions.

What the Accessibility Spotlight Covers

Practical, lived experience insights that help organisations understand what access really feels like.

Venue & Activity Access

We look at how accessible venues, leisure activities and community services feel for people managing pain, fatigue, reduced mobility and dexterity challenges — from arrival to participation.

Everyday Barriers

Small things matter. Seating availability, distance from parking, step-free routes, rest areas, signage and staff awareness all affect whether someone can take part comfortably and confidently.

Practical Observations

Spotlight visits involve practical, real-world observations informed by lived experience of arthritis and related conditions. We note what works well and where small changes could make a meaningful difference.

Awareness Opportunities

We can work with organisations to raise awareness of arthritis and invisible disabilities among staff and volunteers — helping teams respond with understanding and confidence.

Accessibility Spotlight vs Workplace Inclusion

These are two distinct services. The Accessibility Spotlight focuses on community venues, leisure activities and public-facing services — looking at access from the perspective of a visitor or participant. Workplace Inclusion focuses on employment, reasonable adjustments, manager awareness and HR policy.
